Students in the WSP English for Speakers of Other Languages class wrote about melas in anticipation of an upcoming mela hosted by the Mother's Club on June 18, 2011.
Rumana Khan A mela is a variety of things. People all get together. These are open places. Everybody can join in it. Everybody can enjoy also. Here are many kinds of different cultural stores. Many people have different things. They also have cultural programs. They have many kinds of food also. I like to go to melas because we have so much fun over there. The whole day we are enjoying many things.
Runa I go to Pohala Boishak Mela. This mela is April 14th. This mela lasts the whole day. I enjoy this mela. At a mela, I can·get many types of jewelry, saris and·dresses. All my friends and·family enjoy this mela.
Ruby A mela is a Bangladeshi festival. This is our cultural program. Everybody has a different stall. They sell clothes, jewelry, and different kinds of foods. All melas are in the afternoon. We enjoy singing and dancing. We enjoy the melas very much.
Nasrin Akter Pohala Boishak is our religion mela. When we come to the mela, we enjoy that we gather. There we enjoy dancing, singing, and other kinds of play. We go to the mela and wear saris. Boys wear punjabi. We gossip there. They have many kinds of shops and stalls there. We can buy anything such as food, toys, and dresses. We take there fish and panta rice.

Sadeka Begum My favorite food is chicken fry. I like this food. I cook this food and my family enjoys.
Tasrin Reji My favorite food is rice chicken. I like this food. I cook this.
Rowshan Ara My favorite food is a burger. Burgers are good food. I learned to make this food from one friend. I can make it for my breakfast. Sometimes, I can use it for tiffin (lunch).
Ireen Parveen My favorite food is a mango. This is my country food. In my country, people like mangoes. I like them because this food is tasty and sweet. My little baby really really likes it. Mangoes have an oval shape. The colors are green and yellow. Sometime, I eat a mango with milk.
